Employee Testimonial – Mathieu Gagnon

Introducing Mathieu Gagnon, the Brain and Body Lead at the Surrey Neuroplasticity Clinic

Mathieu has been with the Surrey Neuroplasticity Clinic team since February 2019. He originally started as a Kinesiologist and has grown into his current role as a Brain and Body Lead.

The Surrey Neuroplasticity Clinic (SNPC) brings the latest scientific advancement into our clinical programs. Some of our cutting-edge technology includes NeuroCatch® Platform, PoNS™ Treatment Program, NeuroCom® SMART Balance Master and Muse™ Brain Sensing Head Band. Our passionate care team consists of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and kinesiologists who strive to help your brain heal, adapt, and retrain itself.

What does your average day look like?

I start my day at work around 8:15 and have some time to catch up with the clinic leadership team and plan out the week or address any pressing items. I, then, go into treating clients for most of the day, which I love. My average day consists of helping people feel better and work towards regaining a meaningful life which is very rewarding.

What is important to you in the workplace? How does HTC deliver on that?

I value having a balanced work/life relationship, and I think that HTC does a great job of this. They promote a lot of autonomy and allow you to navigate your tasks in a way that allows you to be the best version of yourself. I also value working in a place with collaboration towards a common purpose. The ease at which all of our teams are able to communicate allows for extremely amazing things to happen in all branches of the company.

Which of our core values resonate with you the best? Why?

Authentic resonates with me the best. I always strive to be my candid and real self in all situations, which I think is important particularly in a young company. With so many things going on at once, it becomes easy to lose yourself and find yourself getting pulled in directions that may not resonate with you or with the vision of the company. I think that by allowing yourself to be radically candid, you develop stronger working relationships and empower others to do the same.

Do you have any initiatives or activities outside of the workplace?

I enjoy spending time with my family and my dog, Kuma. I enjoy physically active tasks such as snowboarding, hockey, and hiking. I think that ensuring physical health feeds into improving mental health and effectiveness at work.

What has been your favorite moment so far? What makes it memorable?

My favorite moment so far in my career was getting the chance to work with CAA hockey in California at the CAA top prospects camp. Getting to speak about cognitive health and performance is a red thread of mine, and being able to work with amazing professionals leading their respective fields alongside a great team from HTC was a lot of fun and an extremely valuable experience.

What drew you to HTC? What keeps you here and motivates you to stay?

I wanted to work for a company that looked to change the mold of how we think about overall health. I was really drawn to the company’s goal of positively impacting a billion brains, and I truly think we can achieve that. One of the reasons I enjoy working here so much and keeps me coming to work is that we are always working towards growth. I continue to learn new things everyday and get excited to apply this knowledge into areas of my practice, business development and working relationships. I also enjoy being in a position now where I can positively impact the growth of other staff and help them in achieving their personal career goals.

Introducing Mahshid (Mash) Kashaverz, the Client Experience Ambassador for Surrey Neuroplasticity Clinic

Mash has been with the Surrey Neuroplasticity Clinic team since October 2022.

My day mainly consists of client care, problem-solving, multi-tasking, booking appointments, and all things PoNS related. This includes shipping and receiving client devices and setting them up for the PoNS program, making arrangements with out-of-town clients, responding to inquiries via email/phone and learning about new services and programs (as we are still growing and expanding). Apart from that, I also assist with accounts receivable and submissions to a variety of different healthcare benefits including but not limited to ICBC, Worksafe BC, Long Term Disability, Autism Funding, First Nations Health Authority etc.

What is important to you in the workplace? How does HTC deliver on that?

Teamwork, respect and being heard are top on my list. At SNPC, not only are we heard and respected but our comfort and well-being matter to the company. They make sure to take care of their employees and keep them happy.

Which of our core values resonate with you the best? Why?

Respect and elevate resonates with me the most. I think if we give people the encouragement and respect they need to succeed and at the same time allow them to express themselves without feeling like they need to hold back, it would make for one very happy employee who would be willing to go above and beyond for the company. Growing within the company as well as WITH the company is a success for everyone involved.

What has been your favorite moment so far? What makes it memorable?

Seeing how passionate the clinicians are about the well-being of their clients. Seeing not only the clinicians’ hard work, but also the hard work of their clients. Let’s just say a lot of tears have been shed.

Seeing how every single individual brings such importance to their role to the clinic and the success stories that take place are truly magnificent!

What drew you to HTC? What keeps you here and motivates you to stay?

What drew me to this particular company is how different they are from any other medical field I’ve ever worked for in the past; and I have been in the medical field for 18 years. From the types of services offered, to the passion and drive behind each offered program, to making every client who walk through our doors feel at home and treated as a part of the family is truly beautiful. It makes me very proud to be a part of it.

Every program created and offered here at SNPC has been well thought out down to the last detail. Client care, comfort and success has always been the number one priority.
